Our firm was recently involved in a jury trial for one of our civil cases in Harford County. In this case, our client fell through a wooden deck at the house where she lived. The landlord went out and repaired the deck the next day and added a bunch of wood. Thereafter, the deck was destroyed and a new deck was built. This presented a large problem for us as all our photos of the deck were taken after the repairs. You can see this in the photos with the lighter newer looking wood. The lawyer for the Defendant (insurance company) objected to the photos as they showed evidence of subsequent remedial measures, which cannot be brought up at trial. The judge ultimately decided that we would have to redact the photos to take out the new wood. We were given very 15 hours to make these alterations. Luckily, we are friends with Mare Distler, an amazing graphic designer who was able to alter the photos below with a few hours notice. We are proud of her work below.
